Working Towards a Brighter Future

Non-for-profit

About

STEP UP is a not-for-profit initiative dedicated to uplifting underrepresented populations through education and health literacy. We offer community-driven programs to promote academic success, healthcare navigation skills, and long-term empowerment. Our programs target immigrant and refugee populations, underserved youth, and women from equity-deserving communities.

From classroom workshops to community seminars, STEP UP is here to walk with you every step of the way.

Ways We Help

Meaningful Work. Unforgettable Experiences.

Helping Newcomers Navigate Healthcare in Canada

We offer tailored seminars that guide refugee and immigrant families through the complex healthcare system in Canada. These sessions cover everything from how to register for OHIP and find a family doctor, to understanding the role of walk-in clinics, interpreting prescription instructions, and navigating emergency rooms. Delivered in clear, accessible language, and often in multiple languages, our seminars aim to build confidence and independence in managing health needs for the whole family.

Promoting Health Education for All Ages

From sun safety to mental wellness, our health education programs help children and teens learn how to stay healthy, physically, emotionally, and socially. These engaging, age-appropriate sessions are delivered not only through our summer workshop series but also in classrooms during the school year in collaboration with local schools and community organizations. We cover practical topics like hydration, personal hygiene, healthy eating, safe internet use, sleep routines, and stress management, equipping youth with tools that support both short-term wellbeing and long-term development.

Whether it’s in a school gym, a community center, or a summer camp, we bring health education directly to the youth who need it most.

Empowering Students Through Hands on Skills & Career Exploration

STEP UP: Discover, Dream, and Do – High School Outreach Program delivers interactive, in-person workshops that combine post-secondary guidance, diverse medical student and healthcare panels, hands-on clinical skills exposure, and open discussions that demystify pathways into medicine. By fostering meaningful connections between medical trainees and youth who often lack access to such networks, STEP UP aims to reduce barriers to healthcare careers and inspire the next generation of diverse healthcare leaders.

Our professional guest speaker workshops introduce youth to careers in medicine and healthcare, encouraging dreams and goals early on.

Supporting Newcomer Youth Through Language Education & Supplies

Through our interactive activites, engaging English lessons, student-centered classes, presentations, workshops, groupworks and homework, we aim to create a fun learning experience for all ages.

For each of our student, we provide school supply packages consisting of binders, notebooks, pencil cases, pencils, crayons and much more!

Building Community & Belonging

We recognize the unique healthcare barriers faced by women from immigrant and refugee backgrounds. Through culturally sensitive and language-accessible workshops, we provide vital information on reproductive health, prenatal care, mental health resources, and navigating gender-specific healthcare services. These sessions aim to empower women with knowledge, reduce stigma, and create safe spaces where their voices and experiences are prioritized.
